How to apply for a scholarship

Scholarships and tuition fee waivers in Finland are offered by individual universities. There are no governmental scholarship programmes available.

If the university of your choice offers scholarships, remember that they are competitive and will typically only cover your tuition fees, either partially or wholly. You must independently cover your own living costs.

With some universities, you can apply for a scholarship at the same time as you submit your admission application — making it easy to plan your studies and funding together. In other cases, scholarships may become available after you’ve started your studies. These can, for example, reward your progress, academic success, or even your growing Finnish language skills.
